My name is Chris Morley. I'm MAINGEAR's CTO. And I have some opinions. They're good opinions. Opinions for America. And I want to share them with you.
Hey guys! Been a while since I've done an update, it's been quite a busy year for MAINGEAR! We've been busy working on a new website revision which should hit next week, a couple of new product revisions, and we have some reviews coming out soon of the F131, X-Cube, and SHIFT! Current promotions include free shipping on our Quick Ship systems, just in time for back-to-school. These systems ...
Before I left Jersey to come back to the MAINGEAR Houston Labs, I snagged a review system being prepped and put it up against a normal ATX chassis, the Corsair 800D. I wanted to show how the SHIFT, with its vertical heat-stack design, did a better job of cooling multiple, high heat graphics cards. And what better way than to test out 3-way GTX 480 SLI! What I learned is the SHIFT is quieter (46db vs 52db) and runs the fans on Fermi at a lower speed (55, 67, and 74% vs 80% across ...
Be sure to check out Part 1 if you haven't already read it. OK, now that we've taken a look at the scaling that Fermi has to offer, let's throw in some red-team action to give it some perspective. With a 6 month lead time, AMD has delivered great DX 11 solutions from top to bottom. Add to that the ability to game across 3 monitors on a single card and you've got a great option for gamers. NVIDIA's taken a notably different approach to their architecture, ...

UPDATE 3/29: Thermal Performance (at the bottom) Regardless of brand preference, any time AMD and NVIDIA release a new generation of architecture, we technologists and consumers of technology should get excited. These companies bring to the table hardware that truly changes the way we look at computing. More now than ever, the GPU is playing an increasingly important role in our day-to-day computing experiences. No longer a product reserved for gamers, the GPU has expanded its role ...

Hey all, thought I'd give you an update on some of the configuration changes we've made to our systems lately. First off, you'll notice that many of our systems are getting USB 3.0 and Sata 6G support. USB 3.0 speeds are a dramatic increase over USB 2.0 - 5Gbps vs 480Mbps. Unreal. Sata 6G will have no tangible affect on mechanical hard drives, but we're seeing some tests with unreleased SSDs that definitely take advantage of it. The boards we offer now don't support ...
