Right now my i7-930 Shift is sittin pretty at 3.4 GHz and my 5970 is performing admirably. I'm curious about somewhere in the probably distant future if it would be advisable for me to bump up the OC on my i7 and/or unlock and OC my 5970? I'm sure this won't even be an issue for a few years, but I know the 930 can get 4 GHz stable from what I've read, and I just wonder if when the time comes if it'll be more economical to OC it more or just to buy something new..... For the 5970 I'm guessing it'd be a harder project cuz I'd probably need more cooling and stuff.

I dunno, these are probably just silly and unnecessary questions cuz my rig is a beast now, but I guess it'd just be fun to know if I'll ever be able to milk anymore out of it. I have noooo problems with it at all. I've had mine for many months now and it hasn't even come close to irritating me let alone disappointing me. Definitely one of the best investments I've ever made! Not to mention all my buddies drool over it when they see it :D

Any advice or opinions are welcomed!

I ordered a pretty nicely equipped Shift Extreme on July 24th. For days after placing the order my excitement could hardly be contained. Sadly, as with anything new, i find that my initial enthusiasm is starting to wane a bit. The difference being, i haven't received my computer yet. What i would like to suggest is maybe compiling a little "Welcome to Maingear" file that could be emailed out a week or so after ordering. Perhaps a PDF that could have pages on your general build, instructions on different aspects of the case you ordered and such, and maybe names for the team at Maingear as a reminder for who it was you talked to. To me it would be a lot like a waiter at a restaurant coming over to let you know your food is going to be right out. It bridges the gap from ordering to receiving your computer, gives you a quick reference, and overall just kind of smooths over that waiting period. I certainly think that it aligns itself well with Maingear's excellent service reputation.

Hello Everybody,

This is my first post. So please bare with me if I say stupid stuff. As soon as I get my refund back from one of the other computer makers I am going to buy this one. I will not say who the other computer maker is because I know we are not suppose to. But I will tell you it fried on its first boot up. They wanted me to ship it back for repair. I had a bad feeling about it to start with so I said no to that and said to just refund my money which they said they would do and have not as of today.I went back and forth for six months trying to decide between Maingear and the other computer maker. I am sorry to say I choose the wrong one. Now I am getting it right and going with Maingear. Now most of you , maybe all of you in here are younger than me. But I am an old gamer who loves UT2004, Half Life and various other PC games. I do not play on any Xbox System strictly the PC. I also do Photo Shop as a hobby since I am disabled and can not work. So the computer is very important to me because it lets me do a lot of things I could never do before. Like getting on Google Earth and going to other countries and stuff like that. It is so cool what a nice computer can do. So there you have it. This is mainly but not everything I plan to do with this computer. Please tell me what you think of this build. Like I said I have not ordered it yet but will hopefully very soon.

Due to a recent emergency, I will soon end up with two 24" monitors - Samsung is repairing my previously dead 2443 BTW monitor that was under warranty, and is sending it back. In the meantime, I had to get another monitor - a Dell ST2410. The monitors have slightly different native resolutions. Is it possible to run both monitors simultaneously from my X-Cube (500W Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS SC power source) with a single Radeon HD5750 graphics card? I'm imaging processing, not gaming. Thanks for any advice! BTW, I really like the Dell monitor. It set up quickly and doesn't have any of the funky driver issues with Photoshop that the Samsung has. On the downside, I lost an inch of vertical screen space compared to the Samsung.

Mild Overclock? And a few other questions

1. For an F131 build (X58/ATI) I'm thinking about requesting a very mild overclock of an i7 930 - to just 3.2 or 3.33MHz. From what I'm able to gather this is still early in the energy/performance curve. And Intel does bin some CPUs at that speed.

For such a mild overclock would the 1333 MHz RAM be sufficient or would the 1600 MHz be a better idea? The 1333 RAM should have a 166MHz bus speed, which times the 21 multiple of the i7-930 would be around 3.4GHz.

Does all, or at least some of this make sense?

2. 650 or 750 watt power supply? Are they equally quiet and efficient? While it's possible that I might add a second ATI card (5850 or 5870) at some point I don't anticipate ever having dual NV 480s. Over time I will probably add a couple more hard drives and optical drives.

3. I have a photo that I'd like to get MARC engraved on the side but I'm not sure if it's suitable for the purpose. It's a Roman aqueduct, with some fairly distinct edges and shapes, but also some mid-tone greys that might need to be either dithered or patterned. Will the laser be able to create such simulated grey tones for the stone and landscape in the photo? Also, what is the approximate DPI (to get an even multiple on the scaling)?

Purpose of the machine would be general web usage, gaming, web site design, some Photoshop/Lightroom work (but probably not enough to call for an Nvidia card), and some light video editing. Multi monitor support is good. It should be fairly quiet.
